A free online stopwatch that is easy to read

Press Start and the stopwatch counts up in minutes, seconds and hundredths of a second. Press Lap each time you finish a round and the page keeps a list of every lap. You do not need to download anything or make an account. It works on a phone, a tablet and a computer.

If you close the page or the phone goes to sleep, a running stopwatch is still correct when you open it again, because it remembers the exact time you pressed Start.

Stopwatch with laps

Every lap shows its own time, the total time so far, and how much faster or slower it was than the lap before. Your best lap shows in green and your slowest in red, and the average of all laps sits above the list. You can copy the laps to paste in a message, or download them as a spreadsheet file to keep.

Where people use a stopwatch

  • Running, swimming and cycling: time each lap and see which one was your best.
  • Exams and practice papers: time how long each question or section takes.
  • Cooking and baking: count how long something has been going.
  • Presentations and speeches: check how long you speak. Full screen makes the time easy to read from far away.
  • Games and sports: time rounds, races and reaction tests with friends.
  • Work: see how long a task really takes.

Full screen and background moods

Press the full screen button to fill the whole display with the time, for a classroom, a gym or a track. Press it again, or the Esc key, to come back. Pick a background mood, from the red brand look to a calm night sky or a plain white paper style, to match the room.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Space: start or pause
  • L: mark a lap
  • R: reset to zero (you can undo it for a few seconds)
  • F: full screen
